New Book Assignments for Great Books Classes

We are off and rolling with our next book for both Great Books I and II classes. I hope that you all have a safe and restful break and that you enjoy your reading.

Great Books II

This week we began, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. We had a good pre-reading discussion and begin presenting information to one another about what life was like in the late Nineteenth Century as a means of better understanding the times in which Oscar Wilde lived and how it affected his writings; particularly with the idea of self-perception which is commonly found within the book. We will complete the last two group presentations on Wednesday. In the meantime, you should read Chapters 1-6 and develop 2 Level II's and 1 Level III for Wednesday's discussion

Great Books I

This week we began reading, Dreamseller by Brandon Novak. We had an in-depth discussion about drugs and addiction prior to the reading. We also discussed the differences between Autobiographies and Memoirs. I covered a great deal about the life of Brandon Novak as well. We began our six-word memoir activity which will continue into next week. Over the break you are to read Chapters 2-6 and develop 1 level II and 1 level III for Tuesday's class discussion.
